Planning Your IR Calendar for the Coming Year? Think Strategically to Expand and Deepen your Interactions with Investors
As we approach a new year, calendar planning is in full swing and ensuring the efficient leveraging of time to get the most out of investor relations activities is undoubtedly top of mind. While earnings reports and investment banking conferences often drive the natural rhythm of the IR calendar, they should not be the only forums for engaging investors. Utilizing additional opportunities and events throughout the year can increase and deepen interactions, optimize communications around key milestones, and maximize the overall impact of effective biotech investor relations efforts.
Here are some ideas for getting the most out of your IR calendar.
Identify all potential pools of capital for your story. Decide which life sciences investors are a priority for engagement based on your corporate evolution and how to target them. Decide how much time to spend updating existing investors versus meeting new potential shareholders.
Map the IR calendar to anticipated newsflow. Align your key corporate events for the coming year, including the anticipated timing of milestones and potential new disclosures, with your availability for investor meetings to ensure maximum investor connectivity both before and after these important updates.
Take a critical look at your investment banking conference roster. Ideally, the conferences you attend provide diversity of format and investor access and are spread throughout the calendar year. If schedules are starting to look redundant or sparse, your conference schedule is delivering diminishing returns for the time invested.
Leverage your sell side relationships in new ways. Work with your analysts and corporate access teams to generate more diversified investor touchpoints throughout the year. Identify potential KOL events to showcase your programs or consider a sales “teach in” to engage the teams who often have the strongest relationships with key investors.
Create your own opportunities. Take advantage of scientific or medical meetings to showcase your approach, new data or educate on your product positioning in the form of a KOL event. Leverage your scientific leadership team by hosting your own in depth events on a key topic or program.
Once you have your aspirational calendar set up for the coming year, treat it as dynamic a work in progress and look for additional opportunities for expansion. The coming year should provide a significantly more fertile backdrop for outreach to investors actively looking for new stock stocks to add to their portfolio.
Those who think creatively to maximize quality investor interactions will be the ones best positioned to see existing shareholders add to their positions and new shareholders show up in their 2026 filings. Utilize your IR calendar to best help you reach your goals and prioritize for impact.
